As we often do, we once again didn’t plan well enough and were left short of options for Mothers day, as we had mum (in-law) and aunt as extras for the day, so we scurried around looking for options yesterday.

We ended up opting for Cronulla as the best bet and as all the lunch time options were fully booked so we decided on breakfast

We first tried the Sea Level restaurant which was packed by 8:30 am and had a waiting list and time of approximately  1 hour, so we put down our names and then noticed the less assuming little cafe’ aptly named ‘Alley Break Cafe‘, and all I can say is WOW, how fortunate we were that the aforementioned restaurant was full, we waited about 5 mins and the manager Nick, found us a table right inside for my family of 5 (wife, daughter, mum in law and aunt). The spot we got was at a communal table smack bang right between the baristas and the chefs in the kitchen. No prob for us as at least we had a spot and the morning air was still quite fresh anyway.

The team had their hands full but the efficiency was electric, each team member had a function and purpose and each knew exactly what needed doing without any prompting. WOW. Coffees were being brewed and delivered hot, dishes and crockery was being washed in the back and the wait staff were unpacking these while the chefs were churning sumptuous brekkies and extras.

The menu was not you normal run of the mill breakfast, but filled with gourmet  product selections like  Sonoma breads and muesli, the Big Brekkie, was served hot in an oven baked pan dish (fantastic), and the 4 adults each had our own, and it was good, the other meals coming out around us looked divine as well, and we’ve already committed ourselves to come and visit again soon under less stressful circumstances.

This spot is a definite must if you’re in the area, and the view is great as well. I will recommend this to all my friends and family. There’s a great team running this spot, 2 thumbs up to them.

Type 2 Diabetes

I was diagnosed with Type 2  about 17years ago circa 1994, when I applied for life assurance and the insurance guy gave me the grave news that my life was not insurable (well not exactly those exact words) but that was exactly how it felt to me. I received a letter from the prospective insurer rather stating that at that point they were unable to offer me insurance based on the medical test results that were taken, and they suggested that I consult my GP for more information on why I was refused.

My family history is riddled with this disease, and the genetic cesspool seems muddy and thick and toxic. I remember my granddad with no legs (amputated due to gangrene), he was mostly blind as well. He passed on when when I was about 4 or y/o so i don’t remember much. The rest of my dads family all had Diabetes ,none were grossly overweight either, they were just genetically predisposed to the disease. My 2 uncles and 2 aunts from my dads side had it and passed away not too long ago due to complications stemming from the T2D, my dads had it as long as I can remember and his the only surviving sibling. Most of my male cousins on my dads side have it as well and none of us ore particularly overweight.  All of us are now in our 40ties and looking downhill to the next half of life. Lets hope we all get there.

So what is this disease all about ?

We found this little restaurant cum pizzeria just around the corner from home, it’s great for informal dining with friends and family. After living in the area for a year, tonight was the first time we gave the dinner menu a go, and I can tell you that were not disappointed. The styling is ordinary, but the food is oh so good. The best steaks ever, i had the Black Angus Fillet ( pricey at $40,but worth it). See the menu attached. Only 3 dessert items on the menu but all classic favourites (choc brownie with triple choc, and ice cream, creme broulee with baileys, cheese cake with creme all yummy. Very good food indeed. Only downside is that there EFTPOS is often down (i’ve ordered take away before)
